The One by Heather Self

Stranded on Earth two thousand years they’ve waited for the arrival of the One: some to save her, others to kill her. With her birth, the ancient prophecy could at last be fulfilled and the doorway between the worlds would open. Those who know the prophecy believe this event occurred almost eighteen years ago, and now, they’ll stop at nothing to find her.

Seventeen-year-old Eveline has lived her entire life on the move and she hates it. She knows her parents believe she’s the One, and they’ve done whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of those who want her dead. But Eveline isn’t fully convinced that her parents’ beliefs match her own. What she does believe is that Leadville, Colorado may be the chance she’s been waiting for. The chance to be somewhere safe. The chance for her to make friends and have fun. The chance to finally date a guy. The chance to be a normal girl, at least as normal as possible for someone not human.

 5 Stars

Well I know that everyone loves a good book and this one is definitely at the top. This book shows the bond of family and the joy of love. It also shows that blind hate isn't all it's cracked up to be. This is the story of a girl named Evy that is more than she appears to be. She is a dragon and she is The One. Evy is supposed to be able to fulfill a prophecy to open the portal and get all of the dragons and half dragons, Nerada, back to their world.

Eveline is a teenage girl with all four aspects of dragon blood in her. This makes her special and stands out on her features as well giving her multi colored eyes and streaks in her hair. She is a nice girl whose parents move her around a lot in order to keep her safe from the Nerada. When she is close to going through transition, the thing that makes her an adult dragon, she is moved to a small town loaded with other dragons to keep her safe. When she gets there she learns that she has a brother named Liam from a different mother and that her father had taken all of her memories of him from her. She also finds out that Liam has a brother and sister from his mother. While the attraction between Chase, Liam's brother, and Evy is outstanding I still wanted to punch him half of the time due to his attitude. Chase is supposed to teach Evy how to defend herself and stay alive. When a Nerada named Kieran shows himself to Evy she feels an unusual attraction to him. He turns out to be part of the prophecy and on her side. He has always loved her even before he met her. The end of the book shows the keeper showing up and now I have to wait for the next book.

I would have to say go out and buy this book. It is one of those that is a great read and will keep you glued to it all day and night. I read it in one sit down. Granted I propped up my kindle so I could read while I cooked too. This book gets 5 stars. It is a YA so don't have to worry about it being inappropriate for anyone.

  1. First of all, your blog is GORGEOUS and I love the name! Second, thank you so much for the kind review. There are times I want to punch Chase too! Lol. You'd think after 300 years he'd have figured out how to treat a lady. ;)
