Devan Stowe has only one thing on her mind when she teams up with Kent Crosby and his associates—putting an end to her father’s child trafficking business. Her determination takes her on a journey to discover her true strength and the one man she was destined to love. In his arms, she’ll learn the meaning of trust, honor, and courage. Devan will unlock an amazing gift that will free her from her past and open up a future full of magic, faeries and more things than she ever imagined possible.
4 Stars, 3 Flames
From the beginning of the story the reader is sucked into Olivia Hardin's world of magic and mystery. After discovering her father's disgusting business of selling children to the highest bidder, Devan is determined to see him ruined. She feels her best bet is to join Kent and his teammates, though she gets strong opposition from Kent. Fortunately, his mentor/partner Langston, sees something in her and advises Kent to bring her along. What she isn't prepared for, however, is to find out that she's a witch, and that the men they are tracking down are vampires. Struggling to assimilate all the information being thrown at her while fighting an attraction to Kent is not easy. Throw in a nasty vampire who wants her for his own, an evil organization determined to stop them, and the good guys leaving them high and dry and you've got a great book to curl up in front of the fire with!
I really enjoyed Witch Way Bends. Olivia Hardin blends the thrill of mystery, magic, romance, and paranormal characters into a compelling story you can't put down. I like her take on witches and the many "others" she introduces in her story. Devan and Kent feel an instant attraction to each other, and while the tension is thick, it doesn't overshadow the plot of the story or slow down the pacing. Devan is a strong, independent character who rolls with the punches and keeps on going. She doesn't let the announcement that she's a witch slow her down, and she quickly accepts her new reality, one with witches, faeries, vampires, dhampirs, and shifters. The book ends on a good note, but leaves you wanting more when Ms. Hardin hints at where the next book will go. If you like paranormal mystery/romance, this book should definitely be added to your bookshelf. I cannot wait to read the second in the series and see where Ms. Hardin leads us next!
