Logan Calhoun is the last full-blooded Paladin, the future leader of a
race of immortal warrior angels. The heavy responsibility of continuing
the Paladin line falls to him, and the last thing he should do is get
involved with a human. Then fate throws Jessica Waters, a homicide
detective who doesn't believe in fate or divine intervention, into his
path. Her devotion lies in her Glock and a good set of handcuffs. Like
Logan, she's a warrior for her people, and she awakens within him
something he'd never thought he'd feel. But she's also as human as they
come...
Let me just say that this was a great read. Jessica was woman who always put her job first. After the death of her sister Jess put herself off of the emotional shelf and instead focused on the law. The only thing that mattered was finding the killer. Every killer she saw in her mind was just like the one that had taken her sister from her and needed to be brought to justice. When she meets Logan he is involved in a case that she is working on. A bad man was murdered and the man accused of the murder was Logan's brother-in-law. I know what your thinking. If it was a bad guy that was killed, why push for justice? That is the type of person that she is. It didn't matter if the person deserved it or not, only that they faced punishment for what they had done. Yet even knowing this she is drawn to Logan. Which turns out to be a good thing as the real killers are supernatural and determined to shut her up. Or use her as bait.
Logan is so not what he seems. Yes he is sexy and powerful and a good guy. However he isn't human. He is a Paladin. One of HIS soldiers set to the world to fight demons and protect humanity. (I know. How could you not drool.) He is a hard guy though with a father that thinks human souls will contaminate the Paladin if they let them. So when Logan meets his mate, his fully human mate, his father isn't happy about it. Logan goes above and beyond trying to protect his mate. Even blocking her memory of the first time they meet. He turns into a silent bodyguard and follows her around when he learns that the vampires and demons are after her. After he saves her yet again from the powers of hell, she remembers that first meeting and they fall in bed together. When the truth comes out to her about what he really is she does what any girl would do. Runs like hell.
Now go read this book and find out how many times he saves her. You also have to find out how it ends. I will tell you this, there are some big changes in both of their lives. Also Logan's dad is a dick. I give this book 4 stars and 2 flames.
